After discussion in class for past few weeks, we have developed a basic understanding regard post colonialism. However, understanding the context alone is not enough, we need to demonstrate how we have read or view the material thoughtfully or critically and prove the knowledge by responding to 5 difference questions with some evidence to back up our claim as well. These five question are mostly from post colonial theory video, and post colonial studies reader George Lamming’s theory and “Can the subaltern speak by Gayatri Spivak”.

First of all, the ideas need to relate how Southeast Asia is perceived and perceived itself and whether that perception is reflected in the way the cultures and societies of the region are represented in literature and film.  From what I understood from the first video, post-colonization is essentially the struggle of the characters' identities in the aftermath of colonialism, particularly those from Africa, the Middle East, and the Indian subcontinent. For example, the British colonized India from the 1700s until the 1947s. So, the great British had a significant impact on India, and the British's shadow may still be observed in India's economic, political, and emotional effects. A more obvious example may be seen in Cambodia, which became a protectorate of France in 1863 and remained such for the next 90 years. Most higher education books in the national library are translated into French, and some universities in Phnom Penh with engineering or medicine majors still have a French curriculum as a prerequisite. I believe it will only have an influence on many more factors, such as language, culture, and tradition, resulting in a new different culture that combines the aspect of both countries.
